Bitcoin vs Altcoins
What Are Altcoins?
Altcoins are any cryptocurrency that isn't Bitcoin. There are thousands of them — Ethereum, Solana, XRP, and many more.
Why Bitcoin is Different
- • First mover — Bitcoin has been running since 2009 with no downtime
- • Largest network — more computing power securing it than any other
- • No single founder — Satoshi disappeared, so no one controls it
- • Simple and reliable — does one thing well: store value
- • Most recognized — the "digital gold" standard
The Issues with Altcoins
- • Many fail — most altcoins lose 99% of their value
- • Centralized control — often controlled by a small team
- • Complexity — more features means more things can break
- • Speculation — many are driven by hype, not utility
When Altcoins Make Sense
Some altcoins serve specific purposes. Ethereum enables smart contracts. Stablecoins maintain a fixed price. But for storing value long-term, Bitcoin remains the most secure and reliable choice.
